Lockheed Receives Two DoD-NDIA Engineering Awards; Lee Flake, Mark Calassa Comment

Lockheed Martin has received two out of five awards from the Defense Department and the National Defense Industrial Association for excellence in systems engineering, with the Army and Air Force as respective co-recipients, the company announced Thursday.

The company’s mission systems and sensors segment and the Army’s Night Vision/Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition program manager were recognized for the AN/TPQ-53 Counterfire Target Acquisition Radar.

“The first Q-53 radar system was in combat providing enhanced protection for our soldiers just 45 months after we won the Army’s competitive development contract,” said Lee Flake, Lockheed’s program director for counterfire target acquisition radar systems.

Lockheed’s space systems segment and the Air Force’s Military Satellite Communications Systems Directorate, based at the branch’s Space and Missile Systems Center in Los Angeles, were recognized for the Advanced Extremely High Frequency satellite program.

Both the first and second AEHF satellites are on orbit, said Mark Calassa, Lockheed’s vice president and AEHF program manager.
