The 36-year military veteran served as commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command during the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks and became the first commander of U.S. Northern Command in October 2002 while continuing to lead NORAD.
Board Chairman Noel Watson said in a release the board appointed him for his experience “in the area of aerospace and defense, as well as in executive business management and corporate governance.”
Eberhart led NORAD from February 2000 to November 2004 and also concurrently led U.S. Space Command during those first two years prior to heading NORTHCOM.
Between July 1997 and July 1999, he served as the Air Force’s vice chief of staff.
