BAE Systems is partnering with a university to host a three-day technology, aerospace and cybersecurity expo aimed at encouraging students to consider pursuing careers in engineering, the company announced Monday.

The conference began Sunday at Khalifa University’s Abu Dhabi campus with a closed-door session for industry and will later feature talks by Khalifa University speakers and engineering and cyber speakers from BAE.

“BAE Systems is committed to supporting the Abu Dhabi 2030 vision through working with UAE industry and academia to help young people develop an interest in engineering and new technologies,” said Ben Bridge, BAE’s regional vice president for the Middle East. “This event allows us to directly connect with students in the UAE, give them hands-on interaction with the latest technology, find out what they are interested in, and steer them towards an exciting future in engineering.”

“Our students greatly enjoy events like this one, where they get to see and experiment with the results of engineering, science and technology,” said Dr. Mohammed Al Mualla, senior VP for research and development at Khalifa. “It helps them envision their future careers and inspires them to be creative and industrious in their studies. Part of Khalifa University’s mission is to ensure that its graduates are capable of making major contributions to the current and future sectors of UAE industry and society as leaders and innovators.”

Earlier, students from both Khalifa and other schools in the United Arab Emirates took part in a cybersecurity exercise on preparing, protecting, monitoring and responding.

Tuesday will feature an event focused in women in the industry and include presentations from BAE’s senior female engineers and Dr. Habiba Alsafar, an assistant professor, who will give the keynote address.
