HP Vet Alan Kessler Joins Encryption Tech Firm as CEO

Encryption technology maker Vormetric has appointed veteran Hewlett-Packard executive Alan Kessler president and CEO, the company announced Tuesday.

The company said he will be responsible for leading expansion into new markets and for maintaining its footprint in the data security sector.

Kessler said his goals include addressing use cases in cloud computing and big data, growing the company’s federal market share and targeting international markets.

“Our objective was to recruit a CEO who has leadership experience in the security, enterprise software and storage systems markets, as well as a person with a track record for building and managing global businesses,” said Bob Spinnner, a Vormetric board member and managing director at Sigma Partners.

Kessler’s most recent position at HP was vice president of worldwide sales and service for enterprise security products, where he set and executed the go-to-market strategy for the portfolio of products, solutions and associated security services.

He led the teams that took HP ArcSight, HP TippingPoint, HP Fortify, HP Application Security Center and HP Atalla security products to market.

Kessler joined HP upon that company’s acquisition of 3Com, where he served as president of the company’s TippingPoint division, an intrusion prevention vendor.

He has also served as president and CEO of enterprise storage systems maker Attune Systems and as president of Palm, where he also served as president of that firm’s platform and products group during its initial product offering.
