Robert Smith on Lockheed’s AEHF Demo Project Win

Lockheed Martin will demonstrate concepts for transferring data between legacy military satellite communications systems and future protected communications systems for the U.S. Air Force.

The company said it won a 10-month contract to carry out the Protected MILSATCOM Design for Affordability Risk Reduction Demonstration Study.

Goals of the project include laying groundwork for future communications systems and expanding capacity for the growing needs of tactical forces, said Robert Smith, vice president of space and cyber in the information systems and global solutions-defense line.

As of May, the Air Force and the company were discussing a potential $3 billion purchase of two advanced extremely high frequency satellites (click over to GovCon Wire for more information).

The company is the prime contractor for the AEHF program.
