Charlie Thomas, Razorsight CEO, Wins Virginia Entrepreneur Award

Charlie Thomas

Charlie Thomas, CEO of cloud-based analytics firm Razorsight, was honored at a banquet in Herdon, Va. this month as a recipient of the inaugural Center for Innovative Technology 2012 GAP 50 Entrepreneur Award.

The Center said the award is the “crowning event” of Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell‘s ‘Year of the Entrepreneur’ initiative and honors Virginia’s “next generation of entrepreneurs who create and drive high-growth companies.”

Thomas and other awardees were selected out of a pool of more than 800 nominees and 272 finalists for the award, which was presented by Steve Case, co-founder of AOL and current chairman of Revolution LLC, and Virginia Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling.

“The recognition reflects the commitment to innovation that Razorsight has demonstrated repeatedly, but which has been accelerated in 2012 by leveraging new investment and hiring several new analytics experts in the U.S. and Bangalore, as well as expanding into Asia with the opening of an office in Singapore,” Thomas told GovCon Executive.

“On a personal level, I have the utmost respect for all entrepreneurs and as a 15-year-plus entrepreneur, nothing matches the challenge, intensity and reward of building a company. It’s nice to be recognized alongside such an elite group of executives.”

Over the course of his career, Thomas has co-founded, grown and sold four companies, negotiated more than $1 billion in capital financing and has successfully executed more than 15 merger and acquisition transactions.

Razorsight is currently ranked number eight on Deloitte‘s Virginia Fast 50 and number 114 on Deloitte’s National Fast 500.

Tom Weithman, managing director of CIT GAP Funds, said the award “recognizes visionary industry leaders whose accomplishments inspire their peers and enhance Virginia’s reputation as a premier hub of technology innovation.”

McDonnell founded the initiative to highlight how entrepreneurs are helping to drive Virginia’s growing economy.

To choose the honorees and finalists, entrepreneurs from around Virginia voted using a peer selection process.
