ATK Donation for AF Museum Expansion; Michael Pekar Comments

ATK GCEATK has donated $100,000 to a foundation supporting expansion of the Air Force National Museum in Ohio, scheduled to begin construction in 2013 and complete in 2015.

The museum’s foundation said funding will go toward a new 224,000 square-foot building for galleries featuring space, presidential aircraft and global reach.

The museum is based at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.

“Our local employees look forward to participating in new programs and exhibit experiences in the fourth building and sharing their experiences with colleagues across the country,” said Michael Pekar, head of ATK’s Dayton site.

Pekar said this project is one of several ATK participates in, aiming to increase student interest in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.

Retired Lt. Gen. Richard V. Reynolds, chairman of the Air Force Museum Foundation’s board of managers, said the new building will be the museum’s fourth and will act as a platform to promote STEM careers.

The foundation has secured $38.7 million out of its goal to raise $48.7 million for the project.
