Robert F. Wood serves as vice president of strategic initiatives at BAE Systems Inc.
In this role, he is responsible for guiding the direction of strategic business opportunities and leading the campaigns for strategic business pursuits.
With more than 14 years of experience in the aerospace and defense industry, Wood joined BAE Systems in March 2010 to serve as VP of strategy & planning for U.S. combat systems in the land and armaments sector before moving to his current position.
Previously, Wood was with Northrop Grumman and was promoted through positions of increasing responsibility as director and corporate director in business development and strategy. His roles involved business strategy and new business growth for several sectors and business areas. Wood was the campaign lead for a large competitive unmanned systems program win for the company and he assisted in strategy development for a number of competitive program campaigns in areas, such as unmanned systems, ISR systems, C4I networks, C2 operations centers, land forces programs and sustainment.
Wood has also worked as a program manager and technical director for Anteon International Inc., a defense and technical services company, and for the Boeing Company, where he led various business development efforts.
Wood is a retired career naval aviator and a veteran of the Gulf War, having accumulated 4000 flight hours. He commanded an F/A-18C squadron and during his flying career he served two tours as an instructor pilot in the A-7E Corsair and F/A-18 Hornet.
He holds a master’s degree in organizational development from the University of San Francisco, a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Rochester. He is also a graduate of several executive education programs, including MIT’s Seminar XXI Program on International Relations and The Executive Program at the Darden School of Business, University of Virginia.
