VMware Named a Top 50 Innovative Computing Company by MIT Technology Review

VMWareVMware announced Monday that it has been recognized as one of MIT Technology Review’s 50 Disruptive Companies for 2013, according to a company statement.

“We take great pride in VMware being recognized as an innovator by MIT Technology Review,” said Martin Casado, chief architect of networking at VMware.

VMware was included in the field of computing in the annual review’s list of most innovative technology companies worldwide.

The Palo Alto, CA-based firm offers network virtualization that enables the dynamic creation of virtual network infrastructure and services.

Its nicira network virtualization platform is used by industry leaders, including AT&T, DreamHost, eBay, Fidelity Investments, NTT and Rackspace.

MIT Technology Review editors select companies that have demonstrated original and valuable technology over the previous year, are bringing that technology to market at significant scale and are clearly influencing their competitors.

“The pace at which technology changes is astounding,” said MIT Technology Review publisher and editor-in-chief Jason Pontin.

“This issue celebrates organizations at the forefront, displaying ‘disruptive innovation’ that will prove to surpass the competition, transform an industry and change our lives.”

VMware and the other honorees will be featured in the March/April edition of MIT Technology Review, which is available online at technologyreview.com and will be available on newsstands worldwide on March 5
