CTC Robotic System In Running For Edison Award

CTCLogoA robotic paint-stripping system developed by Concurrent Technologies Corp. and Carnegie Mellon University is among 131 products and services selected as finalists for the Edison Awards.

More than 7,000 companies submitted their products for 14 categories and 41 sub-categories and only 351 submissions were accepted, CTC says.

The Advanced Robotic Laser Coating Removal System is a finalist in the material science category.

Carnegie Mellon’s National Robotics Engineering Center helped CTC build the system, which uses lasers mounted on mobile robotic platforms to remove paint and coatings from aircraft.

CTC built the system under a contract from the Air Force, continuing work with the branch’s research laboratory since 1999 to build a system that combines laser and robotics technology.
