HP has appointed former accountant Jim Murrin senior vice president of corporate financial analytics and corporate development.

In this new role, Murrin will oversee mergers and acquisitions and help HP’s board understand the company’s financials, particularly of any new acquisition target, Julie Bort reports for Business Insider.

Murrin replaced Andy Johnson, who led M&A when HP bought big data software maker Autonomy in 2011 for $11 billion.

The former HP controller went on to serve as senior vice president of HP ES in May.

Cathy Lesjak, HP chief financial officer, said Murrin will establish and lead the corporate financial analytics function.

This new business capability will develop financial content and perspective for the executive leadership team that the board will use to assess company performance and drive decisions on investment choices and capital allocation.

According to Lesjak, Murrin has served in the select accounts group within enterprise services, driving low performing accounts to a higher level of operational performance and profitability.
