Hughes Enters Seventh Year As DC Robotics Competition Sponsor; Allen Murray Comments

HughesLogoHughes Network Systems will lend its support to two upcoming regional robotics competitions, where teams of high school students work together to build a robotics package.

The company is sponsoring the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology organization’s D.C. regional competition for the seventh straight year, Hughes said Tuesday.

Allen Murray, Hughes senior director of defense and intelligence systems, will serve as judge at the Chesapeake regional competition in Baltimore.

The D.C. regionals will take place at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center from March 28 to March 30 and the Chesapeake regionals will occur between April 11 and 13 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

“Scientific advancements are foundational for our government and military to remain efficient and effective as technology shifts the means to mission success,” Murray said.

“I look forward to reviewing the projects and meeting with the teams at the Chesapeake regional,” he added.

Champions from both competitions will move on to compete in the national championship, which will occur at the the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis from April 24 to April 27.

“FIRST Robotics programs give students the opportunity to see science, technology, engineering and mathematics in action, helping nurture a lifetime love for the sciences and helping develop our next generation of technology leaders,” said Dr. Arunas Slekys, Hughes vice president of corporate marketing.
