IBM Wins EPA Climate Award For Supply Chain; Gina McCarthy Comments

IBMlogoIBM has won a 2013 Climate Leadership Award from the Environmental Protection Agency, which recognized the company for leadership in the supply chain area.

The company was recognized for its emissions reduction goals and for setting requirements for suppliers to measure, disclose and reduce their operational greenhouse gas emissions, IBM said Friday.

According to IBM, the Climate Leadership Award is a national program that aims to recognize corporate, organizational and individual leadership in response to climate change.

“I commend IBM for leading by example with the company’s outstanding actions to help reduce carbon pollution,” said Gina McCarthy, assistant administrator for EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation.

In 2010, IBM gave its first-tier suppliers new requirements for establishing and sustaining a management system to address their corporate and environmental responsibilities.

The EPA, the Association of Climate Change Officers, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions and the Climate Registry sponsor the program.
