Raytheon has won the 2013 Energy Star Sustained Excellence award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, recognizing the company’s efforts to conserve energy and implement green practices.

The agency selected Raytheon for the sixth consecutive time, besting 20,000 Energy Star partners in both the public and private sectors, Raytheon said Wednesday.

This award marks the company’s ninth recognition in its 13 years of membership in the Energy Star program.

Last year, the company groomed 38,000 employees to become “Energy Citizens for Life,” saved $3 million from energy costs through 200 projects and developed new heating and ventilating systems.

“Energy conservation has long been an area of focus at Raytheon, and it is at the top of our list of 15 sustainability goals,” said William Swanson, Raytheon chairman and CEO.
