Science Applications International Corp. has won an Environmental Protection Agency award for setting management goals in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The Excellence in Greenhouse Gas Management Goal Setting Certificate also recognizes companies that publicly report and verify corporate greenhouse gas inventories, SAIC said Wednesday.

A group comprising of the EPA, Association of Climate Change Officers, Center for Climate and Energy Solutions and The Climate Registry evaluates applications for the award.

“We’re honored that our commitment to integrating sustainable principles into our corporate culture and operations has been recognized by the EPA’s center for corporate climate leadership,” said Joe Craver, president of SAIC’s health and engineering sector.

SAIC is aiming to reduce its global scope one and two greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent by 2020.

Scope one emissions comprise of direct emissions from sources owned and controlled by the company and scope 2 emissions come from off-site power, heating, cooling and steam generated from sources SAIC buys.

The company owns 20 percent of its own office space.
