Cisco Launches IT Training Program for Veterans; John Chambers Comments

Cisco-LogoCisco and its channel partners have launched a training and certification program aimed at helping military veterans find jobs in the information technology sector, according to a CRN article.

Kristin Bent writes in the story that the new program is part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Joining Forces initiative to assist military families.

Cisco’s team will help veterans prepare for the company’s certified network associate test and give passers access to a Futures Inc. website that identifies IT job openings aligned with a jobseeker’s skillset.

Other vendors such as Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, NetApp and Oracle are taking part in the program, Bent says.

Speaking at the program’s launch Monday, Cisco CEO John Chambers encouraged IT companies to implement similar training and recruitment initiatives for veterans.

Chambers said the company has already conducted pilot programs using Future’s cloud-based technology designed to translate “military skills into private sector skills.”
