DRS Technologies has won an excellence award from the U.S. Defense Security Service for its efforts to secure classified information and comply with federal security regulations.

The agency recognizes defense contractors that have demonstrated excellence in stopping foreign theft of sensitive information and technology.

DRS said the agency conducted a series of evaluations in 2012 and gave a “superior” rating to about 90% of facilities where company employees handle classified data.

William Lynn, DRS CEO and former deputy defense secretary, said companies who serve the defense industry have a responsibility to meet security requirements.

“Our warfighters are counting on U.S. industry to maintain the technological edge they deserve to ensure their own safety as they defend us around the world,” he added.
