Executive Profile: Jim Burke, Harris Corp. VP of Corporate Communications

Burke_JimJim Burke serves as vice president of corporate communications for Harris Corp.

In this role, he is responsible for developing and implementing the company’s brand, messaging, media relations, Internet, annual report, senior management communications and various other communications initiatives.

Burke joined Harris in 2006 after formerly serving as VP of communications for AuthenTec, a global biometrics company.

Prior to joining AuthentTec, he was SVP of Edelman PR Worldwide’s southeast technology practice, director of media relations for Harris Corp and communications specialist with IBM.

Before his career in public relations, Burke was an award winning reporter, writer and associate editor with various newspapers and trade magazines in the DC area.

Burke is an active member of the Arthur Page Society, The Seminar, The National Press Club and the Aerospace Industry Association communications committee. He is a former board member of the Brevard County chapter of Habitat for Humanity and the communications council for the Florida chapter of the American Electronics Association.

Burke earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Towson University. He also has completed leadership development programs at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, Harris Corp. and IBM.
