IBM, Rensselaer Polytechnic Partner on Big Data Graduate Program; Thomas Begley Comments

IBM logoIBM is partnering with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to provide a new graduate program that will focus on teaching Big Data and analytics skills to students in fall 2013.

The new Master of Science in Business Analytics degree will be offered through the Lally School of Management and Technology, the company has announced.

Under the 30 credit, one-year graduate program, IBM will provide Rensselaer with curriculum materials, case studies, software access and guest lecturers from IBM.

The curriculum will tackle the role of Big Data in businesses, predictive modelling and real-world Big Data and analytics application.

“Data will be the lifeblood for businesses throughout the 21st century and only a trained analytics professional can help unlock its hidden value,” said Thomas Begley, Lally School dean.

“In collaboration with IBM and the Lally School faculty, we are proud to offer a degree program that will send skilled, distinctive candidates into the workforce, to help today’s businesses address the wealth of opportunities and challenges that data poses.”

The new graduate program supports the IBM Academic Initiative launched in 2004.
