Juan Jose Suarez Coppel, Mexican economist and a former general director of a state-owned petroleum company, has been elected to Jacobs Engineering Group‘s board of directors.
Suarez will recuse himself from board actions regarding PEMEX to fulfill obligations under that country’s laws, Jacobs said Friday.
He served as PEMEX’s general director between 2009 and 2012 and chief financial officer between 2001 and 2006, among other positions.
According to Jacobs, PEMEX is Mexico’s largest country and the fourth-largest oil producer in the world.
“He brings a global understanding of the oil and gas market and sound experience in both the public and private sectors in Mexico,” said Noel Watson, Jacobs board chairman.
“His vast knowledge and expertise is of great value to Jacobs as we continue to expand our capabilities in Central and South America,” he added.
Prior to PEMEX, Suarez served as chief of staff for Mexico’s secretary of finance and public credit between 2000 and 2001.
