Northrop Team Wins Army Virtual Simulation Contest

NorthropLogoNorthrop Grumman‘s team won first prize in the navigation category of the Army‘s annual federal virtual environment simulation contest.

The team designed the Virtual Immersive Portable Environment Holodeck Immersive Trainer to help users move in a 360-degree simulated environment, the company announced Friday.

VIPE Holodeck, featuring the company’s Kinect Integration Sensor, is intended for users to walk, run, stop, jump, move side to side and open doors in the environment.

The technical services sector’s virtual immersive training team was announced as winners in the category during the 2013 Federal Virtual Challenge award ceremony held in Orlando, Fla. last week.

Trainers used commercial technologies to develop the trainer and to support live, virtual, and constructive non-kinetic and kinetic training.

The Army Research Laboratory’s simulation and training technology center leads the contest.
