Barry Costa, head of MITRE Corp.’s social radar strategy, has been appointed director of the nonprofit organization’s technology transfer office, which develops new technologies that commercial companies provide to government clients.
The TTO partners with engineers, scientists and MITRE’s research program as it aims to help researchers, academic institutions and federal laboratories collaborate on new innovations, MITRE said Thursday.
Steve Huffman, MITRE vice president and chief technology officer, said Costa understands the significance of technology transfer to both MITRE’s sponsors and the country.
Costa holds three decades of experience in human geography, multimedia and data mining, communication and collection.
He joined MITRE in 1984 and currently leads the company’s efforts to understand and predict human domain using social and traditional media.
Most recently, he helped MITRE research, develop and alter the process of natural language and sociocultural modeling intended to grow human domain awareness.
