EMC to Implement University Library’s Cloud, Data Infrastructure

EMCEMC Corp. will install its storage and computing infrastructure for North Carolina State University’s library to investigate and visualize data.

The company will also provide the James B. Hunt Jr. Library with technology intended to support simulation environments and an interactive cloud service, EMC said Tuesday.

Opened in early 2013, the Hunt Library supports the university’s Powered By program, which EMC serves as a Platinum Member for.

EMC will also provide the library its Isilion scale-out NAS applications for private cloud, virtual desktop and server infrastructure.

The partnership also supports the EMC Information Heritage Initiative, a program that promotes information preservation for future generations.

NC State uses the Hunt library to simulate ROTC training, re-create the St. Paul’s Cross in a three-dimensional view, make video games, simulate virtual crime scenes and visualize mobility of cell wall materials.
