Executive Profile: John Luddy, Aerojet VP and Washington, D.C. Office Head

Luddy_JohnJohn Luddy serves as vice president of Aerojet‘s Washington, D.C. office where he oversees the company’s business development, government affairs and Congressional relations activities in the national capital region.

He joined Aerojet in 2011 after two decades of experience in the Washington policy arena. Prior to coming to Aerojet, he ran his own consulting practice for nine years, providing business development, market analysis and legislative advocacy services to a diverse group of clients, from America’s largest aerospace companies to technology startups.

During 2001 and 2002, Luddy served the Secretary of Defense as a special assistant for legislative affairs, leading Defense Department efforts within Congress on missile defense, strategic weapons, counterprolíferation and international security policies and programs.

Prior to his appointment to DoD, he served as a staff member on the Commission to Assess U.S. National Security Space Management and Organization, chaired by Donald Rumsfeld.

Luddy served for six years in the U.S. Senate, as a senior defense aide to two subcommittee chairmen on the Armed Services Committee and as senior policy advisor to a member of Senate leadership. In these positions, he advised on a wide range of defense, foreign policy and intelligence matters. He also served as the Senators’ principal liaison with senior U.S. government and military officials.

He began his Washington career as a defense analyst with the Heritage Foundation, where he specialized in power proiection, readiness and personnel issues. He has served on active duty as a Marine Corps infantry officer and in Reserve policy, operations and public affairs assignments.

Luddy a graduate of the U.S. Army’s Ranger and Airborne Schools, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Bates College. He earned his Master of Arts in international relations from Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
