The federal government has been urging industry to hire these veterans and GovCon companies have taken that message and run with it.
GovCon Executive constantly publishes articles about firms participating in or starting veterans to work programs and other veteran philanthropy.
Accenture will soon host career workshops for veterans where they will receive resume and interview coaching.
The company will also provide videos, tools and advice for veterans to find work.
Earlier this month, AT&T announced that it will hire 5,000 veterans in the next five years.
The company is also launching a talent exchange program with JPMorgan Chase which would give active military personnel and veterans access to a job referral database.
Cisco announced it has launched a veteran information technology training and certification program.
The program is meant to prepare the vets for the company’s certified network associate test.
In terms of hiring military veterans, Triple Canopy recently won an award from CivillianJobs.com for being a valuable company for creating veteran jobs.
“The company was founded by former U.S. Army special forces personnel in 2003 and today, more than 80 percent of our work force comprises former members of the armed forces,” said Ignacio Balderas, Triple Canopy CEO.
GovCon companies also work to raise money for wounded veterans including a recent 5K hosted by Lockheed Martin.
The Bethesda,Md.- based contractor was able to raise $16,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project.
