Hughes Hosts Regional Technology Seminar; Vinay Patel Comments

Hughes logo_ExecutiveBizHughes Network Systems will hold a technology seminar and exhibit at the upcoming SatCom Africa 2013 summit in Johannesburg, Africa.

Company executives will gather to discuss developments in Ka-band, high-throughput satellite technology, elaborate on future development plans and present the IPoS/DVB-S2-compliant HN9600 and HN9800 Ka-band satellite routers, according to a Hughes statement.

“Ka-band represents the next frontier in broadband, enabling operators to offer a wide range of multi-Mbps service plans for consumer and enterprise applications,” said Hughes Regional Director for Sub-Saharan Africa Vinay Patel, who will discuss broadband coverage using VSAT and fiber-satellite services integration on May 28.

“The sub-Saharan market is undergoing dynamic transformation, with telecom service providers needing to meet the wide range of connectivity requirements for education, health care, oil and gas, public safety, e-governance and rural connectivity,” he added.

satcom africaThe HN9600 and HN9800 run on Jupiter technology, the same solution that powers HughesNet, with offers speeds of up to 15 Mbps to about 700,000 Internet subscribers in the U.S.

It has LDPC coding, TCP and HTTP acceleration, DNS caching, strong data compression and on-demand streaming to accommodate VoIP traffic.

The broadband satellite networks and services said Yahsat, which services Africa, Southwest Asia and the Middle East, is among the international service providers already using both routers.

The four-day SatCom Africa 2013 conference and exhibition will open on Monday at the Sandton Convention Center.

Hughes’ latest broadband satellite technology will be on display at Booth #A24.
