American Systems has won the General Services Administration’s Mentor of the Year award for 2012, which recognizes the company’s participation in a program that aims to encourage collaboration among contractors.

GSA’s mentor-protege program works to encourage prime contractors to work with small businesses on executing GSA contracts and subcontracts, American Systems said Monday.

The company aided Advanced Management Strategies Group Inc. in technical and business development and provided the service disabled veteran-owned small business with subcontracting and prime contracting opportunities.

“It is our privilege to participate in this important GSA program that encourages collaboration within the contracting community in support of the government’s mission,” said Bill Hoover, American Systems president and CEO.

As mentor, American Systems helped AMSG develop strategies across product lifecycle management, logistics, systems engineering and information technology services for two years.

“Our relationship with American Systems has been invaluable in terms of providing guidance to elevate our services, open the door for new opportunities and expand our footprint in the government space,” said Jim O’Farrell, AMSG president and COO.
