Huntington Ingalls’ Barb Niland Wins Virginia Business CFO Award; Mike Petters Comments

Barb NilandBarb Niland, chief financial officer and corporate vice president of business management at Huntington Ingalls Industries, has won the Virginia Business Magazine’s Top CFO award in the publicly traded companies category.

Niland was responsible for the company’s spinoff from Northrop Grumman in 2011, Huntington Ingalls said Friday.

Mike Petters, Huntington Ingalls’ president and CEO, said Niland helped build the corporate finance team at the company.

“She had to hire a lot of new people or bring people along and put them in jobs they had not ever been in before. They haven’t missed a beat, and that’s a tribute to her competence and her skill as a leader,” he added.

Niland started her career at Westinghouse, which later became Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems, in 1979 before holding the same roles at Northrop Grumman Newport News and Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding.
