Justin Rattner Leaves CTO, Director Roles at Intel Labs

IntelLogoJustin Rattner, director and chief technology officer of Intel Labs, has stepped down from both positions and will return to the company in a future role yet to be determined.

Rattner leaves his roles as corporate bylaws require corporate officers be under the agee of 65, Intel said Thursday.

Intel President Renee James will lead Intel Labs until the company makes a decision regarding leadership for the labs.

Rattner, a 40-year company veteran, holds the distinction of becoming Intel’s first principal engineer in 1979 and was named an Intel Fellow in 1988, followed by a promotion to Senior Fellow in 2001.

He recently received the Open Innovation Strategy and Policy Group’s Industry Luminary Award for 21st Century Industrial Innovation.

Rattner was also named to ACM Press’s Computing 200 list in 1997, Person of the Week by ABC News in 1996 and R&D Magazine’s Scientist of the Year in 1989.
