Northrop Donates $6K in STEM Grants for 19 School Teachers; Gorik Hossepian Comments

northrop_logo_smallNorthrop Grumman has awarded $5,700 in grants to support science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs at public schools in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area.

The company announced the grant program in February as part of National Engineers Week and selected 19 teachers in the region based on their proposed STEM educational initiatives, Northrop said Wednesday.

Grant funds are intended to help purchase equipment, supplies, publications or transportation related to a proposed STEM project.

“Our hope is that these grants, along with our unique STEM outreach programs, will continue to foster student interest in science- and math-based educational initiatives,” said Gorik Hossepian, vice president of Northrop’s navigation and positioning systems business unit.

Northrop sponsors several initiatives to promote STEM education and careers, including a program where employees train and mentor high school seniors.

The company also provides academic scholarships to high school graduates who plan to pursue engineering careers.
