EMC Selected for EPA’s Top Green Power Buyers List; Kathrin Winkler Comments

EMCEMC Corp. has been ranked 32nd on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency‘s latest list of the top 50 buyers of renewable energy in the country.

The company acquires 175 million kilowatt hours of green power credits per year, enough to offset 31 percent of its annual electricity consumption, EMC said Thursday.

According to the EPA, EMC’s purchase is equivalent to avoiding annual carbon footprint of 26,000 passenger vehicles or electricity use in 18,000 American households.

“We believe that purchasing green power sends a message to our partners, customers, and employees that supporting clean sources of electricity is not only a sound business decision, but also an important choice in reducing climate risk,” said Kathrin Winkler, EMC senior vice president and chief sustainability officer.

EMC landed the 18th spot on EPA’s annual list of Fortune 500 green power partners and is qualified for the agency’s green power leadership club.
