Northrop Marks 44th Anniversary of Moon Landing; Rick Matthews Comments

northrop-Grumman_BLUENorthrop Grumman recognized the work of its lunar module team to help land man on the moon for the first time Saturday at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Former Grumman Aerospace employees organized the event to commemorate 44th anniversary of the first manned landing on the moon, Northrop said Monday.

More than 200 officials, former astronauts and members of science and space organizations attended the celebration.

“It is important to acknowledge the men and women whose dedication and passion for exploring space led to the success of the lunar module,” said Rick Matthews, vice president of manufacturing operations and director of Northrop’s manned aircraft design center within the aerospace systems sector.

Grumman produced 12 lunar modules for NASA over 10 years and helped expand several Apollo missions, according to the company.

Other Northrop companies that contributed to the lunar module program are TRW, the defense and electronics business of Westinghouse, Dalmo-Victor and Litton Systems and the former Northrop Corp.
