A Parsons-led highway project in Idaho has been recognized with an America’s Transportation Award competition for being completed ahead of schedule.

The Idaho Transportation Department nominated the new 2.1-mile Highway 95 Sand Creek Byway project for the Ahead of Schedule, Medium Project category in the WASHTO region comprising 18 states, Parsons said Thursday.

The $112 million contract to rout Highway 95 around the City of Sandpoint, Idaho involved building four steel-girder bridges and extensive measures against soil erosion control and storm water runoff.

The byway opened ahead of schedule in July 2012, giving motorists an alternate route to the Canadian border by bypassing the main business district.

“Congratulations to the Idaho Transportation Department and the entire project team for this well-deserved recognition,” said Todd Wager, a Parsons group president.

“Sand Creek Byway is an important part of Sandpoint’s infrastructure, and we are proud to have contributed to this outstanding project,” he added.

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials will announce the grand prize and People’s Choice Award winners in September.
