Battelle Designs Technology for Detecting Air Pollutants; Matt Shaw Comments

battelle - ExecutiveMosaicBattelle has developed a laser-based technology that works to detect airborne chemical and biological particles that can pose safety risks to people, facilities and products.

The Resource Effective Bio-Identification System is intended primarily for military and homeland security uses but the company is looking into the device’s potential applications in pharmaceutical, food and healthcare industries, Battelle said Tuesday.

Matt Shaw, Battelle general manager of the CBRNE defense business, said the instrument aims to reduce the time it takes for customers to identify aerosols and update the system to further search for other contaminants.

During a recent test, REBS rapidly tracked atmospheric biological warfare agents at concentrations relevant for early warning information.

Battelle’s technology was designed to help the U.S. Army and Defense Department detect biological threats.
