Cisco, Int’l University Form Cyber Research Partnership; Michal Pechoucek Comments

Cisco-LogoCisco and the Czech Technical University in Prague will collaborate on a program aimed at exploring concepts in machine learning, computer science and artificial intelligence to address cybersecurity.

The university could receive up to $677,000 in funding during the next five years for proposals in cyber research, Cisco said Thursday.

According to the company, the effort continues a partnership between CTU and Cognitive Security, which Cisco acquired early this year.

“This relationship with CTU around cybersecurity is one of the first of a new kind of research partnerships that Cisco is trying to forge with leading research universities around the world,” said Michal Pechoucek, Cisco director of engineering and threat defense and a CTU computer science professor.

Research will initially focus on data analytics, game theory and cloud computing and how they apply to cybersecurity.

Cisco says university students can also apply for the company’s internship programs and work alongside engineers in the U.S.
