Hughes to Help Medical School Use Satellites for Training; Shivaji Chatterjee Comments

Hughes logo_ExecutiveBizA Hughes Network Systems subsidiary has won a contract to provide a satellite-based computer network to a medical school in Delhi, India for postgraduate training, CIOL reported Monday.

Hughes Communications India Ltd. will provide the Delhi Academy of Medical Sciences a managed network for instructors and students to engage in virtual face-to-face learning, according to the report.

Shivaji Chatterjee, vice president of the Hughes subsidiary, said the company aims to increase access to education across the country by leveraging satellite technology, CIOL reports.

The online education program is intended to prepare medical students for postgraduate exams, the publication states.

India’s online education market is projected to reach $40 billion by 2017.
