Lockheed Honors Sandia Labs Chemist with Technical Excellence Award

LockheedLogoLockheed Martin has awarded David Osborn, a chemist at the Department of Energy‘s Sandia National Laboratories, for his discoveries in chemical analysis.

Osborn won the Lockheed NOVA Award for Technical Excellence, which recognizes the methods he helped develop to provide insights into combustion and criegee intermediate chemistry, according to a blog post by Sandia’s Todd Heinrichs.

“It is exciting to see the explosion of new experiments around the world that our work has catalyzed, which will improve the rigor of atmospheric models in the near future,” Osborn was quoted as saying.

Heinrichs writes Osborn found that combining synchrotron radiation and mass spectrometry could yield new techniques for studying isomer-specific combustion.

This insight paved the way for the development of an instrument for DOE scientists and partners doing research on the atmospheric chemistry of Earth and Saturn’s moon, the post states.
