Battelle has been selected for two energy awards in connection with the 2013 Defense Energy Technology Challenge/Utility Technology Challenge.

The company won the awards for its smart grid innovations and waste-to-gas conversion technology and will be awarded at the Defense Energy Summit on Nov. 11 to 13, Battelle announced Monday.

The first award goes to Battelle’s Grid Command Active Demand Management software platform designed for a smarter grid.

It is meant for the stabilization of grids with increased energy security, energy efficiency, reliability and equipment life.

Meanwhile, Battelle’s Waste to Energy – Steam Reformation applications, a joint venture with Elementa, is designed to produce clean and efficient renewable energy from waste feedstock.

The offering is intended to be able to integrate with existing and future grid architectures and reduce dependence on outside energy sources.
