EADS Subsidiary’s Broadband Satellite Set for Launch

A broadcast and broadband service satellite built by EADS subsidiary Astrium was scheduled to launch into space on Sept. 29.

The ASTRA 2E satellite is the seventh Eurostar spacecraft designed and developed by Astrium and was set to fly aboard an International Launch Services Proton vehicle from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur Cosmodrome,  EADS said Sep. 27.

Once in space, the satellite will work to provide broadcast and broadband services to users in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

ASTRA 2E is based on the Eurostar E3000 platform and will carry Ku-and Ka-band payloads.

EADS said  two Eurostar E3000 for SS are in their final integration and testing stages at Astrium facilities in Europe.
