MBDA, Oman Navy Partner for Missile Exercise

MBDA-logoMBDA and Oman’s navy collaborated on an operational naval missile test to evaluate the weapon’s ability to intercept and destroy targets at low altitudes.

The test was conducted aboard the BAE Systems-built Al Shamikh ocean patrol vessel off the coast of the Ile du Levant in the Mediterranean Sea, MBDA announced Tuesday.

During the exercise, the VL MICA missile intercepted and destroyed the target in an effort to simulate a sea skimming anti-ship missile.

The French Direction Generale de l’Armement – Essais de Missiles supervised and controlled the test.

Twelve armed forces worldwide use MICA missiles, the company says.
