Roger Zakheim Joins Covington & Burling

Covington & Burling Roger Zakheim, the House Armed Services Committee general counsel, has joined Covington & Burling, effective Nov. 4, where he will be responsible for the company’s global public policy and government affairs and defense, homeland and national security practices.

Prior to his appointment, Zakheim was the House Armed Services Committee’s general counsel and deputy staff director, Covington & Burling announced Oct. 4.

Zakheim said that Covington & Burling’s “international reach in Europe and Asia, provides the platform for me to build a vibrant practice focused on defense affairs and international security issues.”

During his time at the House committee, Zakheim managed the passage of a law that allowed the Department of Defense‘s $600 billion budget, oversaw committee investigations and oversight hearings. He also served as deputy assistant secretary of defense.

Zakheim was named as one of Defense News’ 100 Most Influential People in U.S. Defense earlier this year and Foreign Policy magazine’s Top 50 Republicans in GOP Foreign Policy last year.

“It has been a fascinating time to be at the center of the national security debate, but I am really looking forward to launching a new chapter in my career,” Zakheim added.
