Lockheed Helped Sponsor UMD Cyber Forum for Middle School Students; Chandra McMahon Comments

Lockheed-Martin-BlueLockheed Martin co-sponsored a cybersecurity forum at the University of Maryland Wednesday to educate attendees on skills related to cyber and information assurance.

UMD hosted more than 350 middle school students at the The Cool Careers in Cybersecurity for Girls Workshop as they worked to solve problems such as identity theft and cell phone forensics, Lockheed announced Wednesday.

The company partnered with the Maryland Cybesecurity Center and the National CyberWatch Center to carry out the forum.

“As the demand for cybersecurity professionals continues to grow for the foreseeable future, it is important to provide students with the necessary information to explore the exciting opportunities in the cybersecurity field,” said Chandra McMahon, vice president of commercial markets and cybersecurity at Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Solutions.

Michel Cukier, associate director for education at the Maryland Cybersecurity Center, said the center aims to increase the number of women working in the cyber field through workshops.

Lockheed has invested more than $1 million in university recruiting, scholarships and training in an effort to grow its pipeline of cybersecurity talent.
