Northrop, UAE Higher Colleges of Technology to Continue STEM Partnership; Mary Petryszyn Comments

northrop-Grumman_BLUENorthrop Grumman has moved to extend its science, technology, engineering and mathematics partnership with the United Arab Emirates’ Higher Colleges of Technology by continuing the company’s Innovation Challenge into 2014.

The company and the college signed a memorandum of understanding to carry on the event that started in 2011, Northrop announced Monday.

HCT students worked to design, build, and test a model-sized unmanned aerial vehicle with the help of the company’s engineers during the 2011 event.

Mary Petryszyn, vice president of international for Northrop’s aerospace systems sector, said the company aims to “cultivate widespread literacy in science, technology, engineering and mathematics by encouraging student interest in STEM programs and careers, especially among females and other minorities.”

Petryszyn added UAE leaders aim to ensure future generations have access to knowledge and technology.

HCT students who were mentored by Northrop are competing in a UAV flying competition between April 22 and 23, 2014 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abi Dhabi.
