UK Defence Ministry Receives Astrium X-Band SATCOM Terminals

Satellite AirforceGPSAstrium has delivered new X-band satellite communication terminals to the U.K. Ministry of Defense for the country’s land and sea forces.

Two Deployable Maritime Milsat SCOTPatrol terminals will be deployed to small royal Navy ships and 25 Mantis terminals are for the U.K.’s land forces, Astrium said Thursday.

The terminals are designed to enable Internet Protocol communication onboard the smaller naval ships, including Mine Counter Measure Vessels on operations in the Arabian Gulf.

Astrium, an EADS subsidiary, also aims to help U.K. soldiers worldwide connect to a single infrastructure that supports all voice and data traffic with encryption for tactical, land and maritime operations.
