Aerojet Rocketdyne Tests Boeing Spacecraft’s Launch Abort System; Terry Lorier Comments

aerojet rocketdyneAerojet Rocketdyne has completed development testing work on an engine for a launch abort system designed for Boeing‘s manned space transportation vehicle.

Each of Aerojet Rocketdyne’s 39,000-pound Launch Abort Engines are intended to help the launch abort system push or propel a spacecraft to safety in case of an abort, Aerojet announced Monday.

Terry Lorier, Aerojet program manager, said two launch abort engines passed all eight tests at a Mojave, Calif.-based facility.

“The tests demonstrated engine performance for multiple mission duty cycles and proved operation and durability under extreme operating conditions. The success of this most recent test series clears the way for our team to proceed into qualification and production of the engine in the next phase of the program,” Lorier added.

Boeing and Aerojet will conduct certification testing on the engines with NASA.
