A Bechtel-built solar photovoltaic facility in San Luis Obispo County, Calif., started commercial operations on Oct. 31.
The NRG Yield– and NRG Energy-owned California Valley Solar Ranch is designed to generate electricity for up to 250 megawatts, Bechtel said Oct. 31.
Donn Grimm, president of Bechtel’s communications, renewables and transmission business line, said the company’s utility scale solar initiatives are meant to make solar power costs more competitive and to increase demand for clean, renewable power sources.
Pacific Gas & Electric will buy electricity from the plant under two long-term power purchase deals.
