DataDirect Networks‘ converged storage platform has been selected by a research center at the University of Florida to manage large sets of life sciences data.
The university’s Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research uses the DDN Storage Fusion Architecture with GRIDScaler filesystem to help scientists access, analyze and share big data collections from genomic experiments, DDN said Thursday.
“Our goal was to develop storage building blocks that would enable us to assemble any kind of storage researchers may need in a simple and secure shared-storage model,” said Aaron Gardner, ICBR cyberinfrastructure section director.
ICBR has reduced its application and storage footprint by 350 percent by using the DDN appliance, the company says.
The DDN infrastructure is built with technology that works to integrate with iRODS and other data grid management tools.
