DullesAirportBoeing has selected Exelis to manufacture composite components for the company’s 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

Exelis will build composite airframe substructures intended to help reduce fuel usage and weight  of the airplanes, Exelis said Thursday.

“This award is a result of our performance and partnership with Boeing – a relationship that spans more than 40 years,” said Mike Blair, vice president and general manager of aerostructures at Exelis.

Blair added the company aims to leverage its experience with high-rate, high-volume composite manufacturing to supply clients with the required materials.
