Iridium, Wyless Join Machine-to-Machine Communications Trade Group; David Wigglesworth Comments

ITphotoIridium and Wyless have become members of a global trade organization that advocates the use of machine-to-machine communications, also known as the “Internet of Things.”

As members of the International M2M Council, satellite services company Iridium and M2M managed services firm Wyless will leverage their experience and aim to help IMC reach its first goal of building an M2M library, IMC said Wednesday.

The M2M library is intended to contain detailed case studies on potential advantages of M2M technology for different sectors.

“Iridium sees great value in joining together with other industry leaders to increase awareness of the business case for M2M, said David Wigglesworth, vice president of data services at Iridium.

“We’ve only scratched the surface of the economic benefits M2M can provide,” Wigglesworth added.

M2M technology refers to applications designed to help sensors and computers exchange data in order to manage remote machines for areas such as mobile healthcare, smart grids, connected cars and home security.

The two companies join AT&T, Oracle, Deutsche Telekom, ORBCOMM, Telit Wireless Solutions, Kore Telematics and Digi International as sustaining members of IMC.
