Stuart Bladen has been appointed head of Hewlett-Packard‘s public sector business in the United Kingdom, Computerworld UK reported Wednesday.

Derek du Preez writes that prior to his appointment, Bladen ran the company’s UK Public Sector division’s DWP and benefits and tax sub-sector.

In his seven-year stint with HP, he had also become the head of its EMEA Applications and Business Services unit.

As the new vice president and general manager of HP’s UK Public Sector business, Bladen will be in-charge of the company’s defense, benefits and tax, communities and home and foreign affairs operations, the company said in a Nov. 28 news release.

Bladen was with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Hitachi and Unisys before he joined HP.

Bladen’s promotion comes “amidst growing tension” between the UK government and information technology suppliers in light with the Cabinet Office’s plan to  “squeeze out the ‘oligopoly’ of traditional suppliers by reforming public sector procurement and introducing more [small and medium enterprises] into the ecosystem,” the report noted.
